Presenting at the Dutch Design Week at the Pool in Sectie-C, Cafe Otomoto & Boekhandel Spijkerman.

The Wound-up Lamp draws inspiration from the mechanism of wooden collapsible toys. The design is functionally transparent and inviting. A wooden screw, inspired by guitar tuners, allows the sculptural light to be tightened and loosened, with the electrical circuit only completing when the string inside the lamp is under full tension. When it's tightened, the structure rises up and the light turns on. The piece uses sliding contacts and insulated conducting wire that is stripped only in the part that makes contact when the piece is wound up.

This playful movement and interaction gives the piece a whimsical character. The lamp is made of tree trimmings, some of them are carved, some left with the bark on. The light is coated with pine resin which gives it an interesting texture and a warm glow.
These first pieces are small table lamps, allowing the designer to focus on the mechanism. When fully developed, the standard components and production process allow for the creation of a series of lamps with varied sculptural designs, as well as larger kinetic art pieces.
